The CEIT

The CEIT – Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Innovation Technology for the Cultural and Environmental Heritage and Biomedicine (http://www.ceit-otranto.it/index.php) was promoted by Virginia Valzano in 2013 and launched in collaboration with the City of Otranto, the Department of Mathematics and Physics, the ISUFI School of the University of Salento and the IBAM of CNR (Institute for Archaeological and Monumental Heritage), under a Convention subscribed by the four Institutions.
The City of Cavallino, the CLIO SpA, the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, the Institute of Nanoscience - CNR, the Institute for Construction Technologies – CNR have also joined the CEIT.
The CEIT objective is to create and manage services and innovative technological systems in the field of cultural and environmental heritage and in the biomedical sector, based on the use of digital technologies 2D, 3D and GIS.
It aims to knowledge, protection, enhancement and enjoyment, even at a distance, of the historical, artistic and archaeological and environmental heritage, as a strategic resource for the cultural and economic growth of the territory.
The CEIT has got a technological infrastructure, a 3D laboratory and 3D Virtual Theatre.
It has also the possibility to benefit from the Partners’ expertise and scientific, technical and instrumental resources.

) is specialist in Digital libraries and digital technologies as applied to heritage; she is an expert in communication, digital content and knowledge management.
She was the general director of SIBA (University Library Computer Services) and of the Telematic Information System for Research and Education of Salento University from 1986 until her retirement in 2010. She was also professor at the Faculty of Cultural Heritage of Salento University in “Library computer organisation”.
She is committed to the development of methodologies for the application of the digital technologies 2D, 3D and GIS in the field of Cultura and Environmental Heritage and she coordinated numerous projects.
She has many publications in her field of expertise.
She is presently consultant of the University of Salento, Editor in Chief of SCIRES-IT and Director of CEIT (http://www.ceit-otranto.it/).
